Dr. Harris Wang Appointed Chair of Systems Biology

CUAFA congratulates Dr. Harris Wang for being appointed chair of the Department of Systems Biology at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Wang has served as interim chair since September 2023 and was a founding faculty member of the department in 2013.

An internationally recognized leader in synthetic biology, Dr. Wang advances next-generation microbiome and cellular therapeutics through systems and genome engineering approaches. His work has been especially influential in spatial mapping and precision editing of the gut microbiome and in developing CRISPR-based technologies to track cellular processes. He is a Biohub investigator, fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and recipient of numerous honors, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the NSF CAREER Award.
